Whoopi Goldberg Urges Democrats to Empower Their Candidates

On Wednesday, Whoopi Goldberg, a co-host on “The View,” emphasized that Democrats need to stop hindering their own candidates following recent significant victories in New Jersey, New York, and Virginia.

“Your party is not your boss. Your voters are your boss,” Goldberg stated. She further explained that when voters demand action, it means they expect progress. “I think we lost because we’ve been told, ‘Well, no one’s going to do anything,'” she added, pointing to Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has been vocal about her disagreements with fellow Republicans concerning health care.

Celebrating Democratic wins, “The View” team noted the election of Democratic governors in New Jersey and Virginia, and the election of Zoran Mamdani as mayor of New York.

Goldberg remarked, “The Democratic Party has many strong candidates, and it should step aside to let them excel.” Co-host Ana Navarro agreed, saying that voters expressed their frustrations against the president at the polls.

Navarro also mentioned former President Barack Obama’s campaigning and jokingly suggested he should run against President Trump if he wanted a “third term.”

Sunny Hostin praised Mamdani’s achievement as a marker of the Democratic Party’s inclusivity, saying, “The Democratic Party is a big tent party. We now have a Muslim mayor in New York, which is significant. This reflects a desire for change; it’s not just about one particular face.” She highlighted the diversity in the party, indicating a wide range of representation.

In another segment, Hostin described the passage of Proposition 50 in California as a notable victory. She saw it as a potential way for Democrats to reclaim their standing as an opposition party. “Energy feeds energy; it’s crucial to foster positive momentum,” she remarked.

Proposition 50 will enable the state to redraw congressional maps to counteract redistricting challenges from Texas. The changes are expected to roll out over the next three election cycles and should increase Democratic representation in California, where currently only nine out of 52 legislative seats are held by Republicans.
