Whoopi Goldberg Surprises Viewers with Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Upcoming Appearance
On Wednesday, Whoopi Goldberg surprised the audience of ABC’s “The View” by announcing that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), known for her support of Trump, will be joining the show next week.
“The View” generally isn’t seen as a welcoming platform for Republican voices, given its collection of progressive hosts. Yet, Greene has been engaging with more liberal outlets since she backed the Democratic push to extend tax credits tied to Obamacare, a significant factor in the ongoing government shutdown.
“People in Washington are starting to think, ‘What about my voters?’ They’re recalling their purpose,” Goldberg commented during the episode.
“Marjorie Taylor Greene – I’m happy to say she’ll be here on Tuesday,” she added, eliciting audible gasps and applause from the studio audience.
Co-host Joy Behar pointed out that Greene’s appearance coincides with Election Day, which might add an interesting twist.
“While I can’t say how much we agree, what we all agree on here is that the shutdown shouldn’t affect the American people,” Goldberg remarked, referring to the shutdown, which has now dragged on for 31 days with no clear resolution.
Earlier this month, the hosts, including Goldberg, Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sarah Haines, Alyssa Farrah Griffin, and Ana Navarro surprised the crowd by complimenting the Georgia congresswoman.
Goldberg had previously called Greene a “pretty amazing voice of reason,” causing some confusion. “What the hell is going on?” she joked.
Behar noted that Greene pointed out how rising premiums impact families in a personal way, saying, “There are some kids who need it. Premiums are going up, so it’s very personal for her. You know, I’ll take it.”
In a social media post earlier this month, Greene expressed her discontent with Obamacare but also shared a contradiction—showing her concern for constituents. She mentioned that if the tax credits lapse, her own child’s premiums will leap significantly, affecting many families in her district.
Alyssa Farrah Griffin humorously observed, “These are dark days when Marjorie Taylor Greene is the voice of reason,” while also referencing the idea that “sometimes a blind squirrel finds a nut,” a saying she explained to Goldberg.
