Whoopi Goldberg Discusses Concerns About U.S. Leadership
On Wednesday’s episode of ABC’s “The View,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg expressed her belief that President Donald Trump has “outgrown” the United States.
A partial transcription follows:
GOLDBERG: We’re caught up in various conflicts right now. I just, I’m not convinced by Kash Patel or Pete Hegseth. I lack trust in those managing things. Honestly, I feel like there isn’t anyone effectively leading the country at the moment. That’s rather unsettling. So, who’s in charge? For the time being, it’s the CDC, but even they seem to be lost. There’s talk of a possible virus, yet they’re saying, “There’s nothing to worry about.” I’m not reassured by that, because I have no idea if we should be worried.
Sunny Hostin: Especially with our current disengagement from the World Health Organization.
GOLDBERG: I believe we’ve, um, faltered as a nation.
Hostin: We’re becoming isolationists.
Sarah Haines: Castrated?
Goldberg: I thought my point was…
Haynes: Debord made a good point, though I wasn’t quite certain he was implying castration.
Goldberg: It’s quite similar. I recognize it’s the same concept, but it is astonishing to me that no one appears to be in charge.
Alyssa Farrar Griffin: I’d argue that there’s still basketball happening in America. There are indeed leaders struggling, and there’s certainly room for improvement.
GOLDBERG: New motherhood brings its own challenges, so she’s, you know, focused on that.
Haynes: I suppose the chest could prove more useful in space than a basketball anyway.
GOLDBERG: Absolutely, there are more women involved. Sometimes it feels like we’re on a global platform. I watch him descend the stairs with all this ceremony and think—
Hostin: In China?
Goldberg: Yes. I see the leader walk with his head down, and I think, I have to respect that. But honestly, I’m skeptical. This is the sentiment I see reflected worldwide. People lack faith in our actions, as there seems to be little substance behind what we’re doing.
Hostin: It feels quite disingenuous.
GOLDBERG: Regardless of the circumstances, it feels dishonest and insulting. This isn’t how America should be perceived.
