They’re able to work things out!
Bruce Blakeman, the Republican candidate for governor, shared a lighthearted moment where Paul McCartney, who is now married to Blakeman’s ex-wife Nancy Shevell, teased him about not attending his concerts. Blakeman recounted this anecdote to The Post.
McCartney humorously chided Blakeman for missing out on his shows, especially after inviting him repeatedly. Blakeman mentioned McCartney’s concert at Nassau Coliseum, adding that he was told, “You have no excuse,” given how accessible the venue was.
“I went to the show. I’ve always been a fan,” remarked Blakeman, who says that various scheduling conflicts had prevented him from accepting McCartney’s previous invitations.
It seems Blakeman maintains a good relationship with the iconic musician, who has been with Shevell since 2011.
“Paul is a very nice guy and a great stepfather to my son, Arlen,” Blakeman noted, despite their differing political views. Interestingly, Blakeman, who is a supporter of Trump, mentioned that they refrain from discussing politics.
While McCartney is known for his environmental activism and criticism of Trump, Blakeman enjoys Trump’s endorsement, having been characterized as “100% MAGA.”
The Long Island native, aiming to unseat incumbent Democrat Kathy Hochul in the upcoming election on November 3, has a history in public service. He met Shevell during his time at Arizona State University, where a mutual friend introduced them.
Reflecting on their 23-year marriage, which ended amicably in 2009, Blakeman said, “We really hit it off.” After their divorce, Shevell married McCartney.
Interestingly, Blakeman mentioned that his favorite Beatles song is “Obla-Di Obla-Da.”
About ten years ago, he met Segal Magori, now a judge in Nassau County, at a political gathering, and they immediately clicked. Early in their relationship, he took her to Israel to celebrate her birthday.
“I invited friends and family to a restaurant near the Western Wall, about 50 people,” Blakeman recounted. “I had to confess that it wasn’t just a birthday party but actually an engagement party!”
With that, he proposed to Magori, sharing that her emotional response included tears and her mother urging her to “say yes.” Luckily, Segal accepted, and they’ve now been happily married for over a decade.
