What was supposed to be a fun and shocking moment at the 96th Oscars turned out to be an incredibly controlled and rehearsed production that went through a rigorous approval process.
Actor and professional wrestler John Cena imitated the nude streaker from the 1974 film. 46th Oscar Awards by seemingly nude on stage to present the award for best costume. In fact, this stunt was the perfect epitome of Hollywood decline. An injection of forced comedy that is both unnecessary and regulated.
No matter how you look at it, Cena’s nudity was a carefully crafted, legally sound “comedy” with input from Disney executives and standards and practices lawyers. One of those executives was Rob Mills, executive vice president of unscripted and alternative entertainment at Walt Disney Television. Ironically, Mills’ job was to ensure that Cena’s fake nude appearance was completely unscripted.
“There was a lot of reluctance to not only face fines from the FCC, but also potential complaints,” Mills said. variety. Disney’s legal team made it clear that it had to be obvious that Cena was not naked.
In a tongue-in-cheek attempt to “educate,” Mills said, “You can’t show your bulge, you can’t show your cracks.” But Disney executives went above and beyond and even put in place safeguards to ensure it aired.
“‘What if he drops that card?’ So we made him look like a Ken doll from the front no matter what. His crack was covered in the back and the envelope was… I Velcroed it there so it wouldn’t fall off. But beyond that, he was naked.”
The bit was rehearsed on set behind closed doors before network representatives battled with the Standards and Practices Department over what was acceptable.
“They were sweating,” Oscar producer Molly McNerney said. “Ultimately, I think we all got to a comfortable place. S&P was comfortable and it didn’t take away from the comedy one bit. We didn’t have to send him out there in a tight white suit. I am sure that is legally desirable. ”
McNearney added that he wants viewers to debate whether or not Cena is nude. “Maybe that’s not the case. [S&P] I wanted. That’s definitely what I want! ”
Given Disney’s celebration of an incredibly vague and inherently sexual leftist ideology, it’s downright strange how tightly regulated a comedy about a 250-pound athlete pretending to look naked is. That’s true.
Even at Oscar celebrated Emma Stone’s performance in “Poor Things”. This movie is about an infantile-minded female Frankenstein’s monster who discovers her own freedom through her worldly sexual escapades. Her journey is described by a character as a “prostitute” in one scene.
Stone described her character as “embracing being a woman: being free, being scared, and being brave.” The film, produced by Disney Studio’s Searchlight Pictures, won a total of four Oscars.
Interestingly, Oscar producer McNerney is also the executive producer of “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Kimmel also hosted the Oscar ceremony. Neither is used to the type of performance that Cena puts on. In late 2022, actor Jason Momoa changed into a “traditional Hawaiian malo” and shared his bare backside with Kimmel’s studio audience.
Over-prepared “comedies” starring nearly naked male actors certainly reinforce viewers’ beliefs that masculinity and heterosexuality are being humiliated by mainstream media.
Hollywood’s cause in this debate is useless when parts like the one mentioned receive hours of scrutiny while at the same time companies like Disney openly admit that they want it. Insert LGBT content to their works.
