WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump vowed Saturday to protect the United States with a much larger version of Israel’s “Iron Dome” missile defense system if elected to a second term.
“In my next term, I will erect over this country a great iron dome the likes of which you have never seen before,” Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, told more than 1,000 mostly evangelical Christians at the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference in Washington, DC.
“The state-of-the-art missile defense shield will be built entirely in America and will create jobs, jobs and more jobs.”
“We’re going to build it in America,” he added. “Israel has it. Israel has it. Why don’t we have it?”
Trump previously I floated the idea — They have yet to reveal specifics, such as whether it will cover the entire country or how much it will cost.
The United States is dwarfed by its size when compared to Israel, which has a land area roughly the same size as the state of New Jersey.
