A nervous exchange It was unfolded on CNN on Wednesday As the executive director of the Veterans, Doug Collins challenged host Kitlan Collins with the recent settlement of a network of $5 million honor loss cases involving Navy veterans.
The unexpected change came after repeated questions about leaked national security debates within the Trump administration, leading the secretary to change the interviewer's table.
Initially, Kaitlan Collins forced his views on Secretary Collins about a recent controversy over group chat messages debating sensitive war plans.
The secretary repeatedly biased, highlighting his commitment to veteran welfare alone.
“I wasn't involved in the chat,” Commissioner Collins clearly stated.
“I trust the president's opinion on that. I trust what's going on. Everyone has a right to receive their opinion. My opinion is, my job is to take care of the veterans of this country when they serve, and that's what I'm trying to do.”
However, when Kaitlan Collins kept pushing this issue, the secretary grew increasingly irritated.
“Catelan, I just answered the question, like I just told you,” he replied.
“I wasn't part of it, and you know, I'm not going to speculate on anything more than what the President is already talking about.
So far this week, things escalated further when the CNN host, who has been blocked twice from asking follow-up questions at the White House related to the signal chat controversy, asked his secretary about the third leak. Secretary Collins was visibly upset and pivoted dramatically.
“Well, Catelan, you definitely don't want to talk about VA, so I have a question as a VA secretary,” he retorted sharply.
“I'm interested in this so I'd like to ask you, but my job is to care for veterans and I'd like to know why CNN is hostile to veterans.
The secretary continued: “In fact, one of your employees actually said, 'We're going to nail him down.' I have a question for you, is that employee still worried about veterans? ”
Secretary Collins added: “So, if you don't want to talk about veterans, you want to talk about everything else. CNN wants to hear as the Cabinet Secretary for Veterans who appear to have problems with Veterans.”
Having caught the off guard, Cate Lancolins tried to return to his original question, trying to answer, “Well, Mr. Secretary, in respect, my question is…”
“Answer my question, Catelan,” Secretary Collins insisted forcefully.
“What you want to do is talk about the subject I have already answered. I answered your question, why don't you answer mine? Has anyone said he was going to nail one of my veterans?
CNN anchors argued her position. “Respectfully, I'm asking questions here, but I'm not involved in what you're referring to there.”
She went on to turn the discussion to her original question regarding the use of signal messages by cabinet members.
Earlier in the year, CNN faced legal troubles when Florida ju-search ruled that the network had slandered Navy veteran Zachary Young.
The ry judge initially awarded a young damages of $5 million, and further punitive damages were considered before CNN chose to personally settle it in a private amount.
The young accused the Taliban of destroying CNN of breaking him in a segment claiming involvement in a “black market” business that charges high prices to evacuate Afghans who are desperate to escape when they seize the country.
The lawsuit reveals that it previously revealed details of CNN's financial secrets, indicating that the network rebounded to $600 million in 2021, $300 million in 2022 and just $400 million in 2023.
However, the document highlights a sharp decline in CNN revenue, falling $400 million (18%) over three years.
