Harrison Ford is not participating in their chat.
First-time Emmy nominee Jessica Williams said her Shrinking co-stars have a group text message, but co-star Ford is not included in those conversations.
“Harrison definitely doesn't mean it. You could say it's a group chat minus one,” she said at the Emmys, which airs Jan. 15 on Fox, where she was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. He spoke to the Post ahead of the award.
“I don't think he texts. I don't think he needs to text. I don't even know if he has a phone.”
In the Apple TV series, Williams, 34, plays a feisty therapist and Ford, 81, plays her cantankerous sole mentor at a behavioral treatment center. Her personality drives him to do her job, but the scene was daunting for the actress.
“I was really nervous,” she revealed. “It's like when you're alone and you don't care about typing, and then all of a sudden someone is on your shoulder and you're like, 'Oh, how am I supposed to type?' ” And when you fail, you say, “I promise you can type better than this.” That's why I feel a little self-conscious when driving in front of Harrison Ford. ”
Williams said Ford, who will receive the Career Achievement Award at Sunday's Critics Choice Awards, is entertaining the cast on set.
“He's a classic joke teller,” she said. “For example, I think you have someone who gives you the setting, the punchline, and tells you the story…that’s a really cool old-school way of doing things.”
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Williams moved to the Big Apple at age 22 to work with Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show,” becoming the youngest correspondent the program ever hired.
She spent 10 years in New York, living in Manhattan, then Williamsburg, Prospect Heights, and Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Now she lives in Eagle Rock, California, but she misses her favorite restaurants like Miss Ada's in Fort Greene.
But she doesn't have to take the subway anymore.
“Sometimes when you feel anxious, it's really hard to go underground in the tunnels where there are starts and stops,” she said.
“Also, if I was going to be on The Daily Show or acting, I wouldn't actually want to take the subway because I might get stuck. …Sometimes the production is like, ‘Please, with love.’” God, please don’t get on the train to meet up because you might literally be stuck underground. ”
At the Emmys, the 6-foot-tall Williams will wear a custom-made Rodarte dress, and she is grateful that the fashion house tried to fit her.
“I'm a size 14, which I think is the average size for women. It's actually really hard to get size 14 clothes, especially from designers,” she lamented. “A lot of really good designers don’t want to finance me…because I’m not a size 4 or 6.”
Williams, who will give the first table read for Season 2 of “The Shrinking” on Wednesday, is looking forward to more scenes with Ford and hopes for more scenes like the one with him. I had to sing the Sugar Ray song “Every Morning” out loud.
“I get to do everything I've ever wanted and even more with the character of Harrison,” she said. “I'm really excited, but I'll definitely be singing in the car a lot more.”
