Why Steelers ‘cannot be happy’ about Aaron Rodgers’ comments before 2025 NFL Draft
Aaron Rodgers’ free agency saga didn’t end when four league MVPs shared on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Thursday.
And while it’s worth noting that Rodgers will make a statement, it goes without saying that he’s taking down in an ugly split from the Jets, for the Steelers team that pursued this offseason so he’s been going down, they probably wouldn’t have been “happy” to hear the latest address of the Super Bowl winner in the 2025 NFL Draft within a week.
“What this tells me is that he is trying to capture and control the story when the Steelers might want him, but he may not have signed it there. Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel said Friday On the “Scoop City” podcast, he co-hosted with athletics Dianna Russini.

Aaron Rodgers spoke a lot on Thursday… but he didn’t say anything.
Resignation seems like a logical decision, but the Steelers are not happy to hear these comments that are close to drafting.@dmrussini And I respond to his comments about his off-field priorities, his jet exits, and more: ⤵️ pic.twitter.com/ihntnhaq9z
“Pittsburgh Steelers, they’ll draft [No.] 21, they are not happy to hear these comments before you draft. They’ll be full of quarterbacks now, they’re probably going to rise for the quarterback. I’ll do it [Ole Miss quarterback] Jaxson Dart, yes [Colorado quarterback] Will Chedur Sanders fall on them? All of these things, he said nothing, Deanna, that was about me. We knew that retirement was for him, we all said that. You’re not saying anything we’ve heard, and it’s an interesting way to send a message. ”
The Steelers have shown patience in Rodgers’ waiting room, even if teams such as the Vikings were speculated to be the 41-year-old quarterback’s preferred destination, with the Giants making Pittsburgh QB1 safe with security and taking an alternative route.
Pittsburgh famously hosted Rogers for a visit last month a few weeks after adding two Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf in trade with the Seahawks.

Rogers and Metcalf worked together this offseason. This was considered a positive sign by Steelers owner Art Rooney II.
“We keep hearing he’s heading in our direction,” Rooney said this month at a league meeting in Palm Beach.Via Pittsburgh Post Gazette), “I didn’t think it would take this long.”
Even before Rodgers appeared on the “Pat McCuffy Show,” the Steelers were familiar with quarterback prospects in this year’s class, hosting Dirt and Sanders for their visit.

The Steelers are likely still considering a top target for Rodgers, but they can’t rule out the possibility of resignation, as the longtime Packer came up on Thursday.
“I’m open to anything and I’m not attached to anything, so retirement may still be possible,” he said.
“I’ve been going through a lot in my personal life, which has to be held at this point,” Rodgers, who spent the past two seasons with the Jets, said Thursday.

He also revealed that he was in a “serious relationship” which was a nugget that caught the attention of many.
“He said nothing, he said nothing to us, he said he was 41 and had a serious relationship,” Daniel said. “I want to know who he is more involved than anything.”
Rogers revealed in December that he was dating a woman named Britanni. It is unclear whether this is the same person he mentioned on Thursday.
He had previously been engaged to actress Shirene Woodley, but he has since moved to “Emily in Paris” star Lucas Bravo.
Rodgers has finished a 17-game season with the Jets, pitching for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
