Crawford Cited for Reckless Driving in Omaha
Boxer Terrence Crawford was pulled over for speeding in Nebraska early Sunday and cited for reckless driving, according to the Omaha Police Department. Reports indicate that video emerged over the weekend showing an officer aiming a gun at Crawford, demanding he exit the vehicle, though the reasons for this escalation are unclear.
The incident occurred after Crawford attended a parade celebrating Canelo Alvarez on September 13. According to police documents, officers were on patrol when they stopped Crawford’s blue four-door sedan.
Following the traffic stop, police reported that Crawford was “quoted and released” for reckless driving. A firearm was observed on the floorboard of the car, and the police confirmed that all individuals inside were legally allowed to carry it.
In a statement from the Omaha PD, they indicated that for safety reasons, they instructed all passengers to exit the vehicle. It was during this time that Crawford’s identity was verified, leading to the citation. One of Crawford’s security team members was also found to be armed legally.
“Police supervisors responded to the scene at Crawford’s request,” the statement added.
A video clip showed Crawford, the reigning super middleweight champion, making a remark about not reaching for his hands unless there was a gun present. He’s set to appear in court in December regarding the citation but declined to comment further on the traffic stop.
Omaha Mayor John Ewing, along with Police Chief Todd Schmadeler, stated that an internal investigation is underway. Ewing expressed the importance of being open about their findings and emphasized the need to ensure safety for all residents regardless of their status.
Despite this incident, Crawford remains undefeated with a record of 42 wins, including 31 knockouts.
