Why the Knicks overlooked Stephen A. Smith following the Celtics’ victory

The Knicks seemingly ignored Stephen A. Smith after clinching the series on Friday night.

On the ESPN broadcast following the game, Smith remarked that the Knicks players didn’t engage with him after their 119-81 loss to the Celtics in Game 6.

“Jalen Brunson approached me and remarked, ‘I have nothing to say to you,’” Smith recalled, alongside former Knicks star John Starks. “Karl Anthony Towns chimed in with, ‘You chose the wrong team,’ referring to his pick for Boston prior to the series starting.”

Smith added, “I reconsidered after the Knicks won Games 1 and 2 in Boston, just like a lot of people across the country.”

After the game, Smith shared a video on x showcasing his brief exchange with Brunson.

Starks queried Smith about his mid-series prediction changes, suggesting he should stay true to his original stance.

Without hesitation, Smith replied, “I was fine owning my choice of the Knicks.”

He later commended Towns for his impressive performance as the series progressed.
