Why Tiger Woods decided to skip pivotal TGL match against first-place team

Tiger Woods chose to skip Tuesday's TGL match for the first time this season. It marked his team's fourth match, with Woods playing in every match leading up to the Bay on Tuesday night.

Max Homa, Kevin Kissner and Tom Kim face off against Shane Laurie, Min Woo Lee and Wyndham Clark, sitting on their respective teams with Woods and Rudig.

Woods initially thought he would play in every TGL game, considering he co-founded this new venture. However, his mother, Kurchida, passed away on February 4th, a week after he was at Sophie Center and watched his son play. The game, in which Woods and Jupiter link golf clubs, was the last time they saw their son play, beating Rory McIlroy's Boston common team in overtime.

Two weeks later, on February 18th, he returned to the competition, but his team lost to New York with a 10-3 score. After that match, Woods said he had a hard time dealing with feelings of losing his mother.

“I had a hard time driving here,” Woods said.

“I've never been playing golf balls since I played with the President, so I put everything down and stopped it. I came here and every moment we had, my mother, she was here It was a real struggle to relive every moment how excited I was to get her to drive. So those are great moments and great memories. It was a difficult process.”

Woods was then asked when he would play next. He had been committed to making his PGA Tour season debut at the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines, a tournament he hosts, but he retreated after his mother's death. Playing golf was not his priority.

“I didn't really think about golf, so I don't think I'm thinking about it a bit here,” Woods said, referring to his schedule.

Who knows when Woods will tee up it?

He previously wanted to get more reps this season, especially before returning to Augusta National. Perhaps he will play for a player starting with TPC Sawgrass on March 13th.

His Jupiter Link team has one TGL match remaining scheduled for Tuesday, March 4th.
