Why Under in Army-Navy may not be shoo-in bettors are accustomed to

For sports gamblers, the Army-Navy game is as synonymous with betting on the under as it is with the famous and glamorous game. Past offenses have created betting trends that inevitably lead to fun conversations and heart-breaking endings.

The under record in the past 18 games is 16-1-1, and could easily be 18-0 if not for the two recent bad hits.

For years past, I have regularly bet on the under because I had a fundamental advantage in this matchup that takes place each December. Over/under odds are based on statistics and results from the entire season. However, the triple-option offense made those numbers lopsided. between Service Academy is very different from games like: only Service Academy.

Specifically, regular opponents in October and November are used to facing spread offenses and will struggle with gap allocation and discipline in the face of Army or Navy misdirection. It will be. It is very difficult and unrealistic to cram triple options into one week.

However, when Army plays Navy, the defense is familiar with the other team's offense because they have played against each other in practice all season. Therefore, it becomes worthwhile to bet on the under. Statistics from previous games don't really apply…until now.

I'm actually betting on 39.5 as it's a new era for both schools. Navy's first-year offensive coordinator added more versatility with shotgun formations and run-pass options. Army incorporated more motion and misdirection, creating more explosive plays.

Each team ranks in the top 40 in offensive efficiency and no longer relies on “three yards and a cloud of dust.” Simply put, service academy defenses no longer have the competitive advantage that their former non-service academy opponents lacked. Army and Navy are a combined 14-9 this season, and that trend should continue.

The 22nd-ranked Black Knights are six-point favorites, and the game will move to Landover, Maryland, for the second time in the 125-year history of the rivalry. Army is undefeated in conference play, won the title game, and is clearly the better team by every metric and common opponent. But does it come at a cost?

“Navy is well-rested with two byes in the past four weeks, while Army plays against Notre Dame at Yankee Stadium, a close game against UTSA, and a solid Tulane team in the American Championship Game. We had to get the win,” professional bettor Chris Macero told Only Players. “Emotions were running high during the victory celebration. It's a rivalry like no other and we need to score points here.”

This betting angle makes sense, and situational handicap analysis is why astute bettors are gaining recognition. I'm on the losing side, but I think I have a great chance since I'm over 39.5.
