There are instantly favorite scores for obvious reasons (my fair woman, cabaret), and instantly favorite scores for reasons you can't understand (Hamilton). The evil ones are growers, and many of the melodies are not so catchy, and in many cases the motif is related in a way that only comes true after multiple listens. It's the same music as going to a Pixie gig where they just play their latest album. You don't want to reach it coldly. But again, there is that sense of confidence and commitment.
