Stacey Wakefield, widow of former Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim, died Wednesday.
Tim, who was notorious for his knuckleball during his 19-year career, died in October after a battle with brain cancer. Stacey was also battling cancer.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news that our beloved mother, daughter, sister, niece, and aunt Stacey passed away today at her home in Massachusetts,” the Wakefield family said in a statement. “She was surrounded by family, dear friends and wonderful carers and nurses. The loss is unimaginable, especially after losing Tim just under five months ago. ’s heart is overcome.”

“We will always remember Stacey as a strong, loving, thoughtful and kind person who was as down-to-earth as they come. We are so grateful to have had her in our lives. I feel very fortunate and take comfort in the fact that she was able to reunite with the love of her life, Tim.
“I would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and caretakers who helped Stacey from her diagnosis to today. I am forever grateful for the unparalleled care and support and wish you all the best these past few months. We are grateful to all those who have given to us.” We truly appreciate your kindness. ”

Stacey and Tim were married from 2002 until his death. they had two children.
A two-time World Series champion, Timme appeared in 590 games with the Red Sox from 1995 to 2011, posting a 4.43 ERA in 3,006 innings. He made his major league debut in 1992 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and spent his first two seasons there.

He was part of the team that broke the “Curse of the Bambino” in 2004, one year after allowing a walk-off home run to Aaron Boone. new york yankees in the 2003 American League Championship Series. He was also on his 2007 team that defeated the Rockies in the World Series with Colorado.
