The wife of former NYPD Interim Commissioner Tom Donlon found herself on the wrong side of the law Monday night after allegedly driving with expired insurance in Manhattan, sources said.
Deirdre O'Connor, 62, was arrested and her insurance expired after she was involved in a three-vehicle crash near the corner of East 53rd Street and Fifth Avenue just before 5:40 p.m., sources and police said. A subpoena was issued.
Police and officials said O'Connor was driving north on First Avenue in a white 2019 Honda CRV when she was struck by another vehicle that fled the scene.
Police say the force forced her vehicle into the back of a black 2020 Toyota Sienna Uber that was carrying a 46-year-old man in a power wheelchair. The man suffered back and neck injuries in the crash and was taken to NYU Langone Hospital in stable condition.
O'Connor and the 56-year-old Uber driver remained at the scene until officers arrived.
O'Connor was arrested at the scene of the accident due to insurance issues and taken to the 17th Precinct, where he was issued a summons and released.
Donlon, 70, claimed he knew “nothing” about his wife's arrest when reached by phone Monday night.
Officials said he showed up in person at the 17th Precinct, but it's unclear whether he came down while his wife was still there or after The Post spoke to him.
The driver who allegedly hit O'Connor remains at large.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
The status of O'Connor and Donlon's relationship is unknown. They each have separate home addresses but are listed as each other's spouses, according to available records.
Mr. Donlon, a former FBI official, was the third New York City police commissioner to take office under Mayor Eric Adams, following the resignation of Edward Caban. He was replaced last month by Jessica Tisch, 43, a former director of the New York City Department of Sanitation, who became permanent chief of the country's largest police force.
He currently serves as Senior Public Safety Advisor at City Hall.
O'Connor did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
