Wilders Demands Total Halt on Asylum After Death of 17-Year-Old Girl

Dutch Populist Leader Proposes Asylum Ban Following Tragic Incident

Geert Wilders, the leader of the Party for Freedom (PVV) in the Netherlands, is advocating for the cessation of all asylum seeker allowances after the tragic murder of 17-year-old Lisa in Amsterdam. This incident, attributed to asylum seekers, has ignited significant outrage.

Last week saw the shocking death of the young girl, which has left the nation grappling with fear and anger. It was disclosed that the 22-year-old suspect in this case, currently facing charges, is himself an asylum seeker. In addition to this murder charge, he is also linked to two other violent incidents, including a sexual assault earlier this month.

In light of these revelations, Wilders called for an immediate and total ban on asylum in the Netherlands. His demands were reiterated in the party’s manifesto for the upcoming elections in October. He emphasized that the country is overwhelmed and experiencing significant strain from current immigration policies.

Wilders stated, “We are standing against generations of left-liberal policies that have led to our nation’s decline.” He expressed strong views against what he termed “destructive asylum seekers” and foreign criminals who, in his opinion, exploit the welfare state.

His manifesto further called for a suspension of the asylum process for at least four years. It also proposed measures such as ceasing family reunification migration and urging the return of refugees from Syria and Ukraine to their home countries. He proposed closing borders and deporting not only asylum seekers but also foreign offenders, while suggesting a withdrawal from the UN Refugee Treaty.

This contentious immigration stance aligns with earlier proposals by Wilders, which were rejected by his more moderate coalition partners, ultimately leading to the collapse of the government and a new election being scheduled for October.

The response to Lisa’s death has not only galvanized populist sentiment but also caught the attention of local officials and community members. On Tuesday, a demonstration titled “Recover the Night” was organized to raise awareness about violence against women.

However, Wilders noted that discussions following such tragedies often stray into topics about male violence while neglecting immigration issues. He quoted a study suggesting that immigrants from certain countries are dramatically more likely to engage in sexual offenses in the Netherlands. “Our problem isn’t solely with men but with immigration,” he argued, pointing to cultural factors and the lack of required integration for newcomers.
