Wills Reflects on Biden’s Transition and Staff
White House Chief of Staff Susie Wills mentioned that she sometimes reaches out to former aides of President Biden, highlighting her positive experiences during the presidential transition.
In an interview with Miranda Devine from the New York Post, Wills spoke positively about Biden’s staff when discussing her thoughts on the previous administration.
“He’s a low-energy president, and I think that actually presents more challenges for the staff than what I experienced. They were really motivated. I couldn’t have expected more kindness during our transition,” she shared.
“The presidency may not be all it’s cracked up to be, but the people I worked with were truly exceptional,” she added. “I still reach out to them occasionally.”
Wills remarked that the experience was different from her expectations but ultimately welcomed.
In related news, President Trump has initiated an investigation regarding the actions Biden took using an “auto-pen.” This suggests that Trump’s former chief aide might have used the pen without his knowledge.
During the interview, Devine asked for insights into Biden’s daily activities, leading Wills to recall a notable meeting in November after Trump’s election.
“I didn’t have any particular insights. There was a meeting right after the election where President Biden and his chief, Jeff Zients, were sitting together. It felt like a great meeting,” she noted. “I couldn’t help but think how they seemed to have gone from rivals to old golf buddies. It was enjoyable yet very professional.”
“And I truly appreciate Jeff for all his efforts in getting me prepared,” she continued. “But honestly, I don’t have much insight into the presidency itself. Looking at it now, I find it hard to believe everything that has unfolded.”
Devine pointed out that while Biden had his moments of clarity, there were indications of his cognitive decline.
Wills agreed, saying, “He did have those moments, but he surrounded himself with capable individuals. Perhaps we don’t all see eye to eye philosophically, but they are good people.”
Wills also expressed appreciation for Zients’ assistance during the transition, calling him extremely professional and kind.
Zients has been mentioned by several Biden aides, including House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.), who has requested an interview as part of an investigation into Biden’s mental state.
Comer specifically reached out to Zients last month for information regarding Biden’s cognitive decline.
