of Los Angeles Chargers Starting quarterback Justin Herbert could be out in Week 3. Pittsburgh SteelersHerbert is still struggling with a sprained ankle sustained in last week's game. Carolina Panthers. Chargers quarterback in question.
Herbert has been battling an injury to his right foot since the summer. During training camp, he tore his plantar fascia and was forced to wear cleats on his right foot for two weeks. He said this week that the two injuries were separate.
The Chargers quarterback isn't the prolific passer many have been accustomed to seeing over the past few years. Under Greg Roman and John Harbaugh, Los Angeles has been heavily tilted in the game. In the Chargers' two wins over the Panthers and Las Vegas Raiders, Herbert threw for 130 and 144 yards, respectively, but only one interception and three touchdowns.
Justing Herbert's injury status
Herbert will be a game-time decision on Sunday against the Steelers. Diana Russini of The Athletic, Herbert is trying to play hardHe was seen practicing Wednesday with his ankle heavily taped, but did not practice Wednesday or Friday. “What I've heard is that for Herbert to play, the team wants to make sure he can put his foot on the ground and stand on his toes,” Russini said.
How Justin Herbert's injury impacts fantasy football
If Herbert sits out against the Steelers, it's unclear who the Chargers' starter will be. Easton Stick is technically the team's backup quarterback and has the most time on the roster. That said, Taylor Heinicke joined the roster just before the season began and has the most starting experience. “I'm not going to reveal what the contingencies are,” head coach John Harbaugh said Friday.
Russini noted that the Chargers already have a run-heavy game plan against the Steelers, whether it's Herbert, Stick or Heinicke. Through the first two weeks of the season, the reunion between running back J.K. Dobbins and offensive coordinator Greg Roman couldn't have gone any better. Dobbins ran for 135 yards in Week 1 and 131 last week. With 22.9 and 20.1 point performances, Dobbins is the RB4 this season. The Steelers are reluctant to go against the run in 2024, but Dobbins should still have RB2 upside based on volume alone.
Quentin Johnston was a popular acquisition on the waiver wire after his performance in Week 1. The Chargers' pass catchers have not been popular plays through two weeks, but they should still be avoided in Week 3. Even if Herbert plays, the Chargers will be relying on J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, limiting their potential at pass catcher.
