Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler on Tuesday “Messy” During a podcast, Will Ferrell spoke about an embarrassing childhood memory that still haunts him.

“Who is 10-year-old Will?” Applegate asked.

“When I was younger, I still loved making my friends laugh,” Ferrell said after detailing his transformation from straight hair to curly hair.

But the comedian admitted he’s self-conscious about one thing in particular: his real name.

“I remember this being very embarrassing, not traumatic, because my real name is John, John William Ferrell, so on the first day of school they called me John,” he recalled. “And the teacher said, ‘John Ferrell?’ and I had to say, ‘But they call me Will, they don’t call me John,’ and it was very embarrassing.”

Ferrell said it took teachers a long time to catch on and that the period was “excruciating” for him.

“I don’t know why it was so embarrassing to have to explain, ‘Actually, I’m Will,'” he added. “People are probably going to hear this and go, ‘That’s the most boring thing ever.'”

“There’s no one named John left,” Applegate joked.

Ferrell isn’t the only actor who has famously dropped or changed his first name.

Earlier this year, Emma Stone revealed that she actually prefers being called by her real name.

“Because my name was being used. [by another actress in SAG]” Stone, born Emily Stone, told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent article.

The actress admitted that people she works with start calling her Emily once they “get to know each other.”

“Then about two years ago, I had this panic attack. For some reason, I was like, ‘I can’t do this. Just call me Emily.'” Nathan [her co-star in ‘The Curse’] “They call me Em, so it’s easy,” she told the outlet.

She also explained that she wants fans to call her Emily, saying, “That’s so flattering. I want to be Emily.”
