2-of-11 though…?
Joel Embiid, the superstar center for the Philadelphia 76ers, made his long-awaited season debut Tuesday against the New York Knicks at Wells Fargo Center. And uh, well, it was pretty damn awful. In an 111-99 defeat to NYK, Embiid was terrible, only scoring 13 points off 2-of-11 shooting. Hell, the 7-footer only had three rebounds while we’re at it.
Playing 26 minutes in the contest, Embiid was out for the Sixers’ first nine games after he suffered a knee injury and then was suspended for three games by the NBA after he had a pushing incident with a columnist in the Philly locker room. Prior to the season, Embiid had stated that he was most likely not going to play in back-to-back contests so he could stay healthy and energized for a run in the playoffs. But the problem is, that attitude only works if you’re playing well and if your team is winning — neither is happening for Embiid. And basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal let him know about it in blunt fashion during the recent edition of “NBA on TNT.”
“Joel Embiid will never win a championship until he gets his mind and his attitude right,” said Shaq.
