Created by Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu, the drama follows famous murderer Charles (Justin Chien) as he returns to Los Angeles from Taiwan to protect his loved ones.
Charles' arrival brings Irene “Mama” Sun (Yoh) to a crossroads. She kept her other son Bruce (Sam Sung Lee) in the dark about her family's powerful business, allowing him to grow up in a normal environment.
Over the course of eight episodes, Charles and Bruce struggle to form a bond due to their vast differences and Bruce's naive nature, but in the end the two are brought together. Mama Sun also shows that she knows how to handle a corpse or two.
“Falchuk and Wu create a unique and addictive action comedy that seamlessly builds the foundation of a complex history between three very different characters, while highlighting veteran talent and a few newcomers.” ,” Decider wrote in its review.

On the plus side, the show's creators seemed interested in continuing the story and made that clear to viewers. The finale includes a post-credits scene in which Big Sun's right-hand man sits at a desk and plots after defeating the leader.
Big Sun appears to be alive at the end of the first season, despite his battles with Charles and Bruce. But Mama Sun made sure he wasn't going anywhere.
While talking with Netflix, Wu and Falchuk teased the return of Big Sun and his gang. “The end of the season is a happy moment for the family, but you can't really relax when you're a gangster…and Big Sun isn't an enemy who easily accepts defeat.”
As for Season 2, the co-creators said they were interested in focusing on the relationship between the Sun trio. “The Sun family will have a hard time maintaining clearly defined roles…The children want to be adults!”
