Williamson ends 2024 primary challenge to Biden

Marianne Williamson ended her candidacy in the presidential primary Wednesday night after failing to break single digits.

Mr Williamson announced that he was suspending his campaign. video, we started talking about words we had read recently. “The sunset is proof that even the end is beautiful.”

“So today, even though it’s time to suspend campaigning for president, I want to see the beauty in it,” Williamson continued.

Williamson, a prolific author and progressive Democrat, is running to the left of President Biden, hoping to convince voters that he is a viable option for people dissatisfied with established party politics. I thought. In the end, she had a disappointing showing in the South Carolina primary and withdrew from her race.

Williamson, 71, who had been aiming for the White House as early as 2020, launched his candidacy against Biden last March, criticizing the Democratic Party’s ethos and calling for fundamental changes to how Washington is run. Ta.

Her criticisms center on her longtime target, the Democratic National Committee, which she claims is unwilling to hold competitive primaries. She strongly criticized the national body’s decision not to hold a preliminary debate this term, denouncing the move as undemocratic, and gained grassroots support from activists who agreed with her assessment.

The Democratic National Committee is working with Mr. Biden to change the primary election schedule in South Carolina to bring the voting date earlier than in New Hampshire, which has held the first-ballot state for decades. This upset Mr. Williamson and other primary challengers who had targeted him.

“The DNC is doing what it does to force a lid on the will of the people: smearing, erasing, and removing anyone other than Biden from the ballot,” she wrote in The Post before votes were counted in the early primaries. told Hill. “All the manipulation to ensure that only their candidates are considered. And we will lose,” she admitted.

She and other Biden rivals had hoped that her lack of presence on the state’s ballot would help her garner enough grassroots support to advance to a later campaign.

Williamson previously told The Hill that his campaign had qualified to vote in several states, including his longtime home of California, but ultimately faced a long and expensive process with Biden. He said he was unable to muster enough local support to continue the primary calendar. The nomination is expected to be fixed.

Polls show she consistently lags behind the incumbent president, who has struggled with low approval ratings among voters in early voting states and across the country. Throughout the presidential race, many voters have said they would be open to seeing an alternative Democratic candidate at the top of the party, but none of the challengers have been able to muster enough support from their base.

Critics charge that her bid is not sophisticated enough to pose a threat to the Biden operation, which has been well-oiled with support from the Democratic National Committee. Some of these tactical flaws became apparent after Williamson faced regular organizational changes, ultimately reshuffling various campaign managers and other staff.

Williamson’s campaign donations webpage posted a video announcing the campaign’s cancellation, saying all donations “going forward” will be used to pay down campaign debt.
