Willie Geist in talks to remain at both MSNBC and NBC: source

Willie Geist of NBC News speaks to maintain a hosting gig at MSNBC.

Anchor’s NBC’s “Sunday Today Show” is in negotiations to maintain the co-host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” as most journalists appearing on both NBC and MSNBC have moved to either network.

MSNBC declined to comment.

According to PoliticsGeist’s talent is coveted by both MSNBC and NBC, to the point that neither network wants to lose him in the spinoff. The outlet noted that journalists have been featured more prominently in the Peacock Network recently, filling out Kelly Clarkson on SNL’s 50th red carpet, for example.

Geist appeared alongside Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski and has been a fixture for “Morning Joe” for many years.

The move comes amid the turbulence of the network following Comcast’s announcement in November, which will emit just a handful of MSNBC and its cable channels, but will retain NBC News, Bravo and streaming service Peacock. Around 100 staff members were let go, including some of the network’s talents, amid a massive overhaul.

Newly created news president Rebecca Kutler and other network brass were rushing to subdue uneasy staff who were fired to learn about massive layoffs before it was officially announced.

MSNBC Brass mistakenly printed details about the bloody smears of the imminent employment of the left-leaning network. And the top-sextreme documents were found by stubborn staff who had leaked details to their colleagues.

In February, Kutler cancelled Joy Reid’s liberal primetime show. This shocked the staff, including Rachel Madow.

Kutler also had a weekend show hosted by Ayman Mocheldin, Jonathan Capehart, Katie Juan and Jose Diaz Barrato.

Politico said Kutler hopes not only balances some of the left-leaning commentary related to covering Trump’s White House, but also brings a more progressive voice than adjusting the rhetoric of “House of Fire.”

Sources close to the situation confirmed that, but noted that the network did not alienate its core, its liberal audience.

Meanwhile, MSNBC has lost custody of several stars on the planet to NBC, including election expert Steve Kornacchi and veteran political journalist Andrea Mitchell.
