LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Retired couple Reed and America Bible are keeping their faith in President Biden.
Despite Biden’s June 27 debate debacle, his shaky ABC interview on July 5 and continuing missteps on the campaign trail, the Bibles — the husband a former immigration inspector and the wife a former real estate agent — remain steadfast in their support of the 81-year-old presumptive Democratic presidential nominee in the key battleground state.
“I’m looking at Joe Biden’s past performance,” Reid, 70, said at a Biden campaign party in her hometown to watch the Colombia-Panama Copa America match on Saturday, where a campaign spokesman was present and all interviews were recorded.
“I know people have doubts about his mental capacity,” Reed said at an event attended by about 30 supporters at the Los Cucos Mexican restaurant chain. “I’m willing to bet big that he can keep the job he’s in.”
The retiree, who lives in a state that last elected a Republican president 20 years ago but is expected to decide the election in November, dismissed concerns that Biden’s mental function could decline further if he wins and remains in office until he is 85.
“That’s what we have a vice president for,” Reed said, “so I’m not worried. I have a backup.”
Reade’s wife, who was with her husband, said he was “over 70 years old” and added: “I like Joe Biden. I know what he’s done.”
“In my opinion, age is wisdom,” she said. “I know people who have been in history for hundreds of years, and they are sharp tools. They are the sharpest tools in the shed.”
Asked if she thought Biden was “one of the best voices” during the debate gaffes, America Reid acknowledged: “No, he wasn’t.”
“But he’s a human being. I think people forget that. I think he just went to debates. He’s traveled all over the world.”
The president returned from an overseas trip 11 days before the debate and spent the six days leading up to the debate preparing in seclusion with his Camp David entourage.
America said it was hard to accept the idea that someone would support Donald Trump, despite Biden’s difficulties.
“What annoys me, or at least annoys me a little, is when intelligent, educated people… [Trump]”They’re supporting liars,” she said.
Leticia Ochoa, 52, who runs a housekeeping business, said she voted in the US presidential election for the first time in 2020 and plans to vote for Biden again this time.
“I like him,” she said. [Democrats] “They care about our people, our Latinos, our community. I love the way they treat us. I fully support them.”
After the debate, Ochoa said she was “not worried at all” about Biden.
“team is [is] “We’re going to be watching his back … Congress and the Democrats,” she said.
But Ochoa acknowledged that “some” of her friends and colleagues plan to switch their votes to Trump.
Nicole Hines, 67, a Las Vegas real estate agent and vice president of the North Las Vegas Democratic Club, said Biden’s debate performance “isn’t important to me.” “If anything happens to him, Kamala can fill in for him.”
“I’m completely comfortable with Kamala. I believe in the administration,” Hines said.
