Alan Wilson Wins Republican Nomination for South Carolina Governor
Alan Wilson has emerged victorious in the Republican primary runoff for Governor of South Carolina, beating out Pamela Evette.
On Tuesday, as early votes began to be counted, the Associated Press declared Wilson the winner. He garnered 27,221 votes, translating to about 62.9%, while Evette received 16,275 votes, or 37.1%.
Prior to the runoff, both candidates had previously outperformed Representatives Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman in the earlier phases of the campaign.
Evette was in the lead during the initial primary on June 9, securing 29% of the vote. She had received endorsements from significant figures in South Carolina, including President Donald Trump.
Last week, Trump publicly endorsed Wilson, indicating that while he appreciated both candidates, he saw no issue in supporting Wilson, emphasizing that endorsing one wouldn’t negate support for the other.
“I love the Wonderful State of South Carolina for every reason in the book, including the fact that it is ‘loaded up’ with truly GREAT people and Political Leaders. There are two Highly Respected Candidates running to be your next Governor in the June 23rd Republican Runoff Election,” Trump wrote.
“Both have had amazing careers, and have been with me from the beginning. They are MAGA and America First all the way! These are the two that I was hoping would get into a Runoff, and they did,” he continued. “Vote for Pam or Alan — They will not let you down!”
In addition to Trump’s endorsement, Wilson also received support from both Mace and Norman.
“I want a law-and-order governor, and that law-and-order governor is going to be Alan Wilson,” Mace stated. “And I not only think he’s going to win tonight, I think he’s going to mop the floor with Pamela Evette, and I very much look forward to that.”
Norman added, “As someone who has always believed in participating in our elections, I’ve never sat on the sidelines and I’m not going to now. We have two choices before us, and I owe it to my supporters to tell you where I stand.” He noted Wilson’s background, calling him a combat veteran, a prosecutor, and a family man, and expressed confidence in Wilson’s ability to work with conservatives statewide to prioritize the needs of South Carolinians.
