Wisconsin couple found dead in Illinois car as investigation into murder-suicide goes on

A couple from Wisconsin, married for less than a year, was found dead in their car in northern Illinois, just days before their first anniversary. Authorities are looking into the possibility of a murder-suicide.

Rachel Noel Dumovich, 29, and Brandon Peter Dumovich, 30, both hailed from Sharon, Wisconsin. Their bodies were discovered on October 6th, in a parked vehicle along Route 14 in Harvard, Illinois. A police officer noticed the flashing hazard lights, initially thinking the car was broken down, and found the couple unresponsive inside.

Each victim had suffered a single gunshot wound, and a firearm was located at the scene.

Harvard University Police Chief Tyson Bauman acknowledged that the investigation is still unfolding, stating, “It is possible that it was a murder-suicide, but a final determination has not been made.” Meanwhile, the McHenry County Coroner’s Office is performing autopsies and toxicology tests, with support from the Major Investigation Assistance Team from McHenry County. Officials have reassured the public that there is no current threat.

The Dumovices’ love story dates back many years. They met in middle school, and Rachel shared on their wedding page that she once made an impression on Brandon by playfully stealing cologne from his locker. After reconnecting in adulthood, the couple began dating in 2022, culminating in an engagement a year later at Big Cedar Lake, a location significant to Rachel’s family. They tied the knot on October 12, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

Described as inseparable by friends and family, Rachel and Brandon enjoyed travel, outdoor adventures, and quiet nights at home with their two dogs, Dash and Cedar.

Rachel was remembered for her academic achievements, graduating with honors in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She worked as the Human Resources Manager at Climate Pros, LLC. Brandon, a U.S. Navy veteran who held the rank of Petty Officer, was passionate about radio-controlled flying, boating, and outdoor activities like fishing and snowmobiling.
