A judge in Wisconsin has pleaded not guilty through her attorney regarding claims that she aided undocumented immigrants in evading immigration enforcement.
Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan made a preliminary plea in federal court. Her appearance attracted a large group of protesters supporting judges who have become symbols of opposition against the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
Dugan was arrested last month, facing accusations of obstructing justice and allegedly concealing Mexican national Eduardo Flores Luis from federal authorities.
She is said to have expedited Flores Luis’s departure, who is facing domestic battery charges, encouraging him to exit through a route inaccessible to the public to evade immigration officials.
She maintains that she acted appropriately and denies any wrongdoing in the situation.
