US Special Envoy Offers Guidance to Russia on Peace Deal with Ukraine
According to a report, US special envoy Steve Witkoff provided Kremlin officials with strategies to effectively present a Ukraine peace deal to President Donald Trump.
As outlined by Bloomberg, Witkoff had a phone conversation on October 14 with Yuri Ushakov, who is Russian President Vladimir Putin’s chief advisor on foreign policy. During this call, Witkoff offered insight on how Putin might approach the topic with Trump.
“We created President Trump’s 20-point plan for peace, and perhaps we could do something similar for you,” Witkoff mentioned, referring to the Trump administration’s previous deal regarding Gaza, as noted by Bloomberg.
In their roughly five-minute chat, Witkoff expressed to Trump his high regard for Putin, emphasizing his belief that Russia has consistently sought a peace agreement with Ukraine.
Trump Acknowledges Progress but Demands a Finalized Agreement for Meetings
Witkoff indicated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was expected at the White House in mid-October and that a meeting between Putin and Trump might take place around that time.
“Mr. Zelensky is set to be at the White House on Friday,” Witkoff reportedly stated, adding that he would attend the meeting, as requested. “But I might have a call with my superior before Friday’s meeting, if that’s possible,” he added.
In the conversation, Witkoff suggested that Putin congratulate Trump on the Gaza peace deal and convey that Russia endorses the agreement and views Trump as a peacemaker, according to Bloomberg.
“I think this is fantastic,” Witkoff reportedly expressed. “Maybe he could mention this to President Trump. Steve and Yuri have discussed a comparable peace proposal, which might influence the situation positively. We’re open to considering something like this.”
Ushakov is quoted as saying that Putin would give Trump congratulations, stating, “Trump is a true pacifist.”
Ukraine Reaches Preliminary Agreement on Peace
On another note, U.S. officials confirmed to Fox News that Ukraine has agreed to a peace agreement aimed at resolving the conflict with Russia, although some details of the deal are still pending.
Lt. Col. Jeff Tolbert, spokesperson for U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, mentioned that Driscoll and his team met with Russian representatives in Abu Dhabi earlier this week to discuss the framework for the peace agreement.
A U.S. official informed Fox News that a Ukrainian delegation was also present in Abu Dhabi and engaged with Driscoll and his team.
Bloomberg reported that Witkoff’s frequent meetings with officials from both Russia and Ukraine reflect an ongoing effort toward peace, in line with President Trump’s vision.
