Witnesses at the hearing for the trans athlete in DOGE share their experiences of the chaotic events.

At a recent hearing titled “Unjust Play: Keep Men Out of Women’s Sports,” female athletes Stephanie Turner and Payton McNabb shared their experiences with Congressional members. The event took place under the Government Efficiency Subcommittee.

During the hearing, Rep. Jasmine Crockett from Texas approached the two athletes, commending their bravery. Turner recounted her feelings, noting that they were there to speak about important issues, not to make the conversation about personal politics.

Crockett, however, seemed to shift the focus off the main purpose of the hearing, which was the protection of women’s sports. She proposed a controversial game during her turn, where she asked witnesses whether to hold Trump or the transgender community responsible for various social issues, leading to a chorus of answers favoring Trump.

Despite her attempts to compliment McNabb and Turner, McNabb expressed skepticism about Crockett’s sincerity, suggesting that her demeanor felt performative. Fox News Digital has sought further comments from Crockett.

The atmosphere of the hearing was tense, with moments of confusion and disagreement among committee members and witnesses, which particularly affected Turner and McNabb. The latter suffered serious injuries during a match against a transgender player and stated that the dialogue around her experience was diminishing its severity.

Goth Graves, a witness from the National Center for Women’s Law, responded oddly to McNabb’s account, prompting McNabb to express disbelief over the response. McNabb described the moment as ridiculous and indicative of a disconnect from real experiences.

Turner, who refused to compete against a transgender opponent in fencing and faced repercussions from USA Fencing, also encountered D-Cal Rep. Latefah Simon, who implied that focusing on women’s sports could unintentionally promote racism. Turner challenged this notion, asserting that her own identity as a Black woman was being misrepresented by political agendas.

This hearing marked the first time Turner faced US fencing chair Damien Lefeld, who had been criticized for his organization’s policies regarding transgender participation in women’s sports. GOP members pressed Lefeld throughout the hearing about these policies and the consequences Turner faced for her stance.

Meanwhile, Rep. Nancy Mace attempted to get Lefeld to apologize to Turner, which he declined, leading to further contentious exchanges. Mace asserted that true men should protect women, claiming Lefeld was not fulfilling that role.

After the hearing, Turner reflected on the need to advocate for women’s fencing and highlighted the goal of reforming gender eligibility policies. The call for change is rooted in the concerns about allowing biological males to compete against female athletes, and the organization is considering steps to address this matter.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon has previously announced an investigation into incidents involving Turner and a transgender athlete, indicating ongoing scrutiny of these issues.
