Witnesses in Brennan Investigation Said to Be Subpoenaed by Grand Jury

Subpoenas Issued for John Brennan Investigation

Senior officials from intelligence and law enforcement agencies have been called to testify before a grand jury in connection with the ongoing investigation into former CIA Director John Brennan.

It appears the subpoenas, which involve the FBI and other intelligence personnel, were issued after the Justice Department instructed a lawyer close to President Donald Trump to take over the inquiry. This investigation focuses on potential false statements Brennan made to Congress regarding his role in the 2016 probe involving the Russian government and the Trump campaign.

Reports suggest that the FBI’s inquiry into Brennan’s statements about his involvement in creating an assessment of potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia has intensified recently.

According to CBS News, leading prosecutors indicated there wasn’t sufficient evidence to move forward with a case, which led to the suspect being withdrawn from the investigation.

As of now, the Justice Department has not responded to requests for comments.

Brennan has long been scrutinized through multiple investigations addressing his intelligence-gathering methods and his involvement in the Trump-Russia inquiry.

In 2020, U.S. Attorney John Durham interviewed Brennan for over eight hours regarding his actions prior to the 2016 presidential election and the assessment of Russian interference in that election. Durham’s report from 2023 concluded that the FBI relied on “uncorroborated information” to initiate the investigation.

Additionally, in 2025, Brennan faced inquiries again, alongside former FBI Director James Comey, for alleged misconduct related to the now-discredited Steele dossier. This investigation was informed by current CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s reference to Brennan’s report concerning his actions.

Furthermore, the House Judiciary Committee referred Brennan for criminal prosecution to the Department of Justice in October 2025, accusing him of “intentionally making false statements” to Congress.

Chairman Jim Jordan remarked that Brennan’s testimony on May 11, 2023, appeared to be a deliberate attempt to misrepresent important facts, leading to the referral for a legal investigation into his statements.
