WNBA agent cites ‘women’s empowerment’ in trade request fray

WNBA agents said the Connecticut Sun is trying to “force” players to play on their teams by not allowing trade requests.

After Guard Marina Maburi, reportedly request Her team, a trade in early February, openly denied the demand despite losing a chunk of the roster.

Sun President Jennifer Rizzotti reportedly told ESPN she didn't want to trade the 28-year-old shortly after the team bought her out. The Sun was in July 2024 with Mabray from Chicago Sky for the second pick in 2025.

However, the organization said that moving Mabrie is not just for getting her, but for the value she places on her as a player, not just for getting her. It's decided.

This apparently didn't work with Marcus Crenshaw of Mabrey's agent, Fam Agency, who went any further in his reasoning about why the team should trade clients.

“In this age of women's empowerment and player support, CT Sun is threatening to force Marina Mabry to play for them after her trade requests,” Crenshaw said. Yahoo Sports.

“Why would you try to force someone to play on a team when someone doesn't want to be there?” the agent asked.

Crenshaw then described the team's decision as “against a number of ways,” claiming widespread confusion over the team's handling of Maburi's situation.

Agents accused the team also traded “Hall of Famers” including Alyssa Thomas and Dihony Carrington.

Fans may recognize Carrington for his comments about WNBA superstar Kate Linklark. Carrington I complained Clark was not working on “Mosogyny” and “Xenophobia” when addressing media criticisms about female basketball players.

Clark said she didn't put much thought into journalists, including her, in the culture war, Carrington appears to be plagued at first glance.

“Dawg. Racism, prejudice, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia, and the way that these intersections can't be bothered by their name to justify nuts. We all have a platform I have it. Everything is speaking up, and all silence is luxury,” Carrington writes to X.

“They are doing everything they can to try and keep them at the marina.”

Ultimately, Mablay agents said that manager Stephanie White also left the Sun and left the team in a tough place as it was said they couldn't hold one of their best signatures.

“They're doing everything they can to force Marina to stay there when they obviously don't want to be there. That's funny,” Crenshaw added.

The 2025 WNBA regular season begins with three games on Friday, May 16th.
