WNBA champion Diana Taurasi continues to mull possible return next season: ‘I think about it every day’

Diana Taurasi is one of the greatest basketball players of her generation. However, the 20-year WNBA veteran has not yet made a decision on his basketball future.

If Taurasi decides to leave the WNBA, she will leave with three league championships, two WNBA Finals MVP trophies and 11 All-Star appearances. She also won three NCAA Division I titles during her storied run with the UConn Huskies.

This week, the future Hall of Famer said he will take some time to decide whether to play another season.

“I don't take retirement lightly. The moment I say or announce that I'm retiring, whether it's a month from now or two months from now, I know that I'm going to retire.” Taurasi told The Associated Press. “I'm still thinking about it because I'm talking to[my wife]Penny[Taylor]and Mercury.”

Taurasi, who has spent his entire WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury, last played in late September. On September 25, the Minnesota Lynx eliminated the Mercury from the playoffs.

“I don't take (retirement) lightly. I think about it every day. You know, I still think deeply about it. I want to make the right decision, and I just We’re just taking our time, little by little,” Taurasi said. “And sometimes when a season ends, you don’t even want to think about next season.”

Taurasi liked the moves the team made last offseason, adding Natasha Cloud and Karlea Copper, which she said made the team a potential championship contender. In July, Mercury announced the creation of a $100 million training center. This state-of-the-art complex includes two basketball courts named after Taurasi.

“I think with the reinforcements we've added (on the court) and the front office, we're going to be there for a long time,” she said. “You know, they're my sisters. I've been through a lot with them. So, you know, I talk to them. Processing the whole season. It's difficult.”

“I really like the idea of ​​being able to get into a position where I obviously have an impact on the team,” she said. “But more than that, just being around (owner) Matt (Ishbia) a little bit and seeing how he's impacted this city as a whole, I think the owner really has a vision and a sense of the city. We can change the energy of what we can do.'' I think what he's accomplished with his team is really the next step for female athletes. ”
