Angel McCoughtry Reacts to Controversy Surrounding Enes Kanter Freedom’s Ejection

Angel McCoughtry, a seasoned WNBA player with 13 years of experience and five All-Star selections, openly shared her thoughts on Enes Kanter Freedom’s ejection from the Sky-Fever game and the ongoing issue of dildos being tossed during games.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, McCoughtry questioned the “obsession” with such behavior. She asked, “What’s with the dildos being thrown on the ground?” This came in response to the discussion about whether the WNBA should impose a league-wide ban on Freedom, who has already been banned from Wintrust Arena by the Sky.

She further commented, “You guys are coming with the shirts. There’s no transgender in the WNBA. So what’s the frenzy about? What’s the obsession? Why can’t we just enjoy the game?”

McCoughtry didn’t shy away from addressing Freedom directly, stating, “There’s a reason he’s banned from Turkey. Something must be going on there. But what’s with messing with women? If you do that, you’re a weak man.”

Freedom, a former NBA player, was removed from the game after getting into a verbal dispute with Sky guard Natasha Cloud during a timeout in the third quarter. During this incident, he wore a T-shirt reading, “WOMAN noun. adult human female.”

McCoughtry insisted that Freedom should be banned from all WNBA venues. “Real NBA players don’t engage in that. They come out to support us and focus on growth and progress,” she explained, questioning Freedom’s intentions about potentially attending future games in places like Los Angeles or New York. “He should be banned to make it clear that we won’t tolerate that kind of behavior. Just leave us alone.”

She reiterated that there aren’t any active transgender athletes within the WNBA and criticized the ongoing discussions surrounding the issue: “If it were relevant, sure, let’s discuss it. But right now, it’s not happening.”

Recently, Freedom announced his intention to enter the 2027 WNBA draft amid debates on transgender athletes participating in women’s sports. However, it’s important to note that after declaring themselves women, both Freedom and former NBA player Royce White won’t be eligible to compete in the WNBA, despite Freedom denying such claims.

McCoughtry also expressed that it’s “disrespectful” for fans to throw sex toys at games, referencing an incident where a green dildo was hurled onto the court during a game between the Dream and Sparks at Crypto.com Arena. “You don’t see women going to NBA games and doing that,” she noted, urging men to stop trying to control or impact women’s success and to show the same respect to women that they expect in return. “I’ve seen too much in my years in this league. It’s time to get it together.”

The individual responsible for throwing the dildo was arrested by arena security and faces an indefinite ban from all WNBA, NBA, and related events. The WNBA had previously addressed this issue after several occurrences of dildos being thrown at games across different cities including Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Phoenix, and Los Angeles.
