WNBA issues caution to Fever after Caitlin Clark injury incident

WNBA Issues Warning to Indiana Fever Over Injury Disclosure

The WNBA has taken action against the Indiana Fever due to the team’s failure to reveal Caitlin Clark’s injury prior to Wednesday’s matchup against the Portland Fire.

Surprisingly, Clark was declared out just two hours before the game, even though she hadn’t appeared on the official injury report the day before.

Her absence was explained as part of a “strategic management plan for this season,” reported Feverbeat journalist Scott Agnes.

According to WNBA regulations, teams are required to submit injury details by 5 p.m. the day before their games.

On Thursday, the WNBA acknowledged the Fever’s situation and issued an official warning, though they avoided imposing a financial penalty.

Clark was unable to participate in Indiana University’s 90-73 victory over Portland due to what seemed to be a back issue.

Fever head coach Stephanie White reassured the media, saying, “She’s healthy. We’re not managing anything. This is just a back issue and we want to give ourselves time to get ready.”

Clark’s absence stirred considerable discussion throughout the league given her influence on attendance and ticket sales.

After her return to the court on Friday against the Valkyries, Clark addressed the earlier confusion regarding the injury report. “I was going to play, I wasn’t going not to play, and when Wednesday came around, that was game day, and I was playing 100 percent,” she stated.

Her ongoing health situation has drawn increased scrutiny following a season where she only played 13 games due to a groin injury.

Last season, Indiana was just one game away from the WNBA Finals, nearly toppling the champion Las Vegas Aces.

Although fans may have felt let down by Clark’s absence, the Fever enjoyed a decisive 90-73 win over Portland.

Clark made her comeback on Friday night, starting in the game against the Golden State Valkyries, as the Fever approached a record of 3-2.
