WNBA legend dismisses claim players jealous of Caitlin Clark

New York Liberty legend Rebecca Lobo has denied claims that WNBA players aren’t fans of Indiana Fever rookie Kaitlyn Clark amid the furor swirling around her.

Clark received a hard foul in a game against the Chicago Sky. The foul was committed by Chennedy Carter, who was later assessed a Flagrant 1 infraction for the action. However, the incident sparked a heated debate about Clark’s treatment, with some arguing that the foul showed how much other players disliked or envied Clark.

“That’s a false narrative,” Lobo told ESPN, “… I don’t believe there’s any jealousy or spite that’s fueling sneaky play. So is it unheard of for a rookie that she’s getting attention defensively? Absolutely….”

“Are veterans being violent towards her? They are. But I hadn’t seen anything too excessive or nasty until the Chennedy-Carter attack. And that was one of the things that was really disappointing to me. … Chennedy opened up an argument that hadn’t been able to be made to bite before.”

Clarke has undoubtedly faced some tough matches in recent weeks.

She received her first technical foul after an altercation with Seattle Storms guard Victoria Vivians. After the game, Clark said she felt like she was “being punched” on the court.

Then the real hit came from Carter’s hand, as Angel Reese also shoved Clark to the ground while the two were battling for position for the rebound.

Other than clarifying in his press conference after the Storm game that Carter’s foul was not a basketball play, Clark has not spoken to the media.
