CHICAGO — Angel Reese's historic rookie season is over.
The Chicago Sky forward said on social media Saturday night that he suffered a season-ending injury but did not disclose what the injury was.
She was listed on the team's injury report with a wrist injury.
“What a year it has been. I never expected a three point bucket as the last bucket of my rookie season but maybe it was God telling me to give you a taste of what you will see more of in year two lol,” Rees wrote. “Throughout this journey I have proven I belong in this league even when no one else believed in me. All I have ever wanted was to get in the W-League and make an impact and I can confidently say I have achieved that and will strive to continue to do so.”
Reese, the seventh pick in the draft, finished the season averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds.
That's the highest rebounding average in WNBA history. Reese also recorded a rookie-record 26 double-doubles, her last coming in a 92-78 win over Los Angeles on Friday night.
Reese has been friends with Indiana University recruit Caitlin Clark since they faced off in the NCAA championships two years ago, when Reese's LSU team went on to win.
The duo has boosted the WNBA's ratings, attendance and merchandise sales this season.
Reese recorded a double-double in 15 consecutive games to start the season, breaking a league record.
She also set a new single season rebound record, breaking Sylvia Fowles' record of 404.
The Sky rookie has totaled 446 rebounds this year, including a record 172 on the offensive end.
Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson has grabbed 406 rebounds this season.
Chicago is vying for the WNBA's final playoff spot, currently tied with Atlanta for eighth place, and the Sky will host Dallas on Sunday.
Reese will play in Unrivaled, a new three-on-three league that begins in Miami in the winter.
