‘Woke Means You Give a Damn About Other People’

Actress Jane Fonda won the SAG Life Achievement Honor at the SAG Awards on Sunday night, and used her speech to wake up and encouraged Hollywood to pursue an anti-Trump agenda.

While the world and the broader culture were trying to remain awake, Jane Fonda came to the defense at the SAG Awards Sunday night, defining it simply as “I care about other people.”

“We, the actors, the things we create are empathy. Our job is to have a very deep understanding of another person and get into touch with their souls,” Fonda said. “And don't make mistakes, empathy is weak and unwakeable. By the way, awakening means you care about other people.”

Fonda also vaguely mentioned the Trump administration's efforts to cut the federal bureaucratic segment before issuing union defenses.

“A lot of people will be really hurt by what's going on,” she said. “Even if they are another political persuasion, we need to listen, not judge our minds.”

“I have a great faith in the union. They have our backs,” she added. “They take us into the community, they give us power. Community means power, which is now when workers' power is being attacked and the community is weakened. It's very important.”

Later in her speech, Fonda talked about her resistance to McCarthyism in the 1950s, encouraging fellow actors to lead resistance.

“I made my first film in 1958. It was the end of the tail of McCarthyism, where so many careers were destroyed,” she said. “Hollywood resisted today, but it's helpful to remember.”

“Have you seen one documentary of apartheid, civil rights, and Stonewall's great social movements? Have you been able to take a horse, baton and dog? We're in the documentary moment, so now we're already there. No need to question it. This is it, not a rehearsal!” she continued.

Fonda concluded by calling for the actors to get caught up in their activities.

“We should not give birth to ourselves to children about what is going on for a while. This is a serious time, people. Be brave. Don't quarantine. I. “We must stay in our community. We must help vulnerable people. We must find ways to project our visions that will be embraced in the hearts of the future,” she said. said.
