An elderly woman was stabbed in the head multiple times after an assailant followed her into an elevator Sunday at a Bronx residential building, officials said.
The unidentified 75-year-old woman was stabbed in the face and head at 11:30 a.m. inside 2066 Morris Avenue in the Tremont neighborhood, law enforcement officials said.
Edwin Rios, 38, allegedly stabbed her multiple times. Police later arrested the suspect on suspicion of attempted murder, officials said.
The victim was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Her condition and her relationship to her attacker are unknown. It is unclear whether she lived in that building.
Officials said Rios was on parole for a similar crime in October 2012 when he followed a 22-year-old woman as she got off a bus in Queens and stabbed her twice in the back.
He was also arrested in 2013, officials said.
