Federal Judge Releases Woman Who Threatened President Trump
A woman incarcerated for making disturbing death threats against former President Donald Trump was released last week by a federal judge appointed by Barack Obama. This judge, Chief U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, has a history of issuing rulings contrary to the former president’s administration.
Judge Boasberg allowed 50-year-old Nathalie Rose Jones to go home but required that she be monitored electronically and undergo psychiatric treatment. This decision was recorded in court documents filed on August 27.
Interestingly, Judge Boasberg made headlines recently when a federal appeals court confirmed his authority to oversee the deportation of illegal immigrants, a decision made by the Trump administration earlier this year. Previously, Trump had criticized Boasberg, labeling him a “Radical Left Lunatic of a Judge” and suggesting he should be impeached.
Jones’ release was particularly surprising, considering that just days earlier, U.S. Magistrate Judge Moxila Upadhyaya had denied her bond due to the threats she made against Trump on social media earlier in the month.
“Here’s where we are,” Jones reportedly posted on Facebook on August 6. “I literally told FBI in five states today that I am willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disemboweling him and cutting out his trachea with Liz Cheney and all The Affirmation present,” she concluded by suggesting they “deal with this and restore domestic tranquility.”
In another post, she urged Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to arrange a public removal of Trump, labeling him a terrorist to the American people.
Authorities began monitoring her social media activity on August 2. During an interview with U.S. Secret Service agents on August 15, Jones confessed she would “carry out the mission of killing” Trump if given the chance.
Her posts often mentioned federal agencies like the FBI, ICE, and DHS, perhaps hoping to capture their attention.
Friends of Jones informed Judge Boasberg, appointed in 2011, that she struggles with schizophrenia and other mental health challenges, although they noted she has not been violent in the past.
Her case was emphasized by the newly appointed D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, who stated that threatening the life of a president is taken very seriously and will face rigorous prosecution.
Jones is currently awaiting trial on felony charges related to her threats against Trump.
