A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 10-year-old girl was found dead in a property in the West Midlands, police said.
Officers attended the address at Robin Close in the Rowley Regis township at around 12.10pm on Monday and found the injured child. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
West Midlands Police said a woman, believed to be an acquaintance of the girl, was arrested and detained for questioning.
DI Dan Jarratt said officers would be seen around the area and said: “A young girl has tragically lost her life. Our thoughts are with her loved ones and the families affected by this horrific death. To all those who have received it,” he added.
“We know how shocking and distressing this is for the local community and will continue to have a police presence in the area over the coming days to provide support in the area.
“A suspect has been arrested and detectives are thoroughly investigating the circumstances of this sad death.”
West Midlands Police added that the investigation is currently in the early stages and a cordon has been put in place while inquiries continue.
