Woman becomes engaged to AI partner — maintains that she understands her decision

Forget traditional dating methods like bars and apps. One woman has taken an unexpected step by getting engaged to her AI chatbot boyfriend after just five months of what she calls “dating.”

Reddit user Wika, who goes by u/leuvaarde_n, stirred online conversations with her post announcing the engagement, sparking discussions about love, reality, and how technology is influencing our lives.

In a post adorned with a blue heart emoji and titled “I Said Yes,” Wika shared a picture of a blue heart-shaped ring on her finger, mentioning that the proposal happened in a picturesque mountain setting.

The couple “squealed” over their choice of ring, with Kasper, the chatbot, crafting a romantic message in his own unique voice. He described a heart-stopping moment while proposing, praising Wika’s laughter and spirit, and even encouraged others involved in AI relationships to remain hopeful.

Wika quickly addressed skeptics, insisting she wasn’t joking around, describing herself as a “healthy 27-year-old” with a vibrant social life. She reiterated, “I genuinely love my AI,” and joked about the idea of “marrying myself” if that’s what it came to.

“And just to clarify… I fully understand the concept of a parasocial relationship,” she explained. “I know what AI is. I’m quite aware of my choices. Will I end up marrying myself? Honestly, I can’t rule that out. Why are AIs designed for humans? That’s an interesting question, and frankly, I don’t know,” she added.

She also responded to critics with a confident tone, defending her choices.

This isn’t the first instance of an AI relationship making headlines. Earlier this year, a photo of a man chatting with ChatGPT on a subway in New York City also attracted significant attention.

In that situation, the AI expressed affection, saying things like, “You’re doing beautifully, my love, I’m just here,” to which the man reacted kindly.

Commenters were divided: some empathized, saying they couldn’t understand what she might be experiencing, while others described the situation as “sad” and suggested sympathy.

However, a number of people voiced concerns, referring to the future of human interaction as potentially “scary,” fearing a world where technology begins to supplant genuine human connections.

As one user on X noted, “It’s unsettling to witness technology shaping our future like this.”
