The traveler said he received an unexpected request from the hotel after booking a room through Expedia.
After finding a special deal on the travel site and receiving confirmation of purchase, the woman received a message from the hotel and wrote on sub-thread R/Travel.
The woman said hotel officials requested that the room be cancelled.
“It's basically made [a] I got booking and confirmation for a special contract on Expedia. A few days later I received a message from the hotel via Expedia Messaging. I ask them to cancel because it's low for them!!” she wrote.

“I contacted Expedia and the agent said the booking was confirmed and the hotel should honor the booking unless I cancel.”

The woman said she contacted the hotel after speaking to an Expedia representative.
“I contacted the hotel to update them in an Expedia response, but they threatened me by driving me crazy if I didn't cancel.

According to comments on the thread, Expedia is in contact with Reddit users.

“We want travelers to gain positive experience when they book and do their best to support them through unexpected issues. Hotels are expected to honor their bookings unless Force Major occurs.
“If a hotel asks travelers to cancel due to booking rates, they should contact Expedia Support via our site or app's 24/7 virtual agent. If our partners provide a consistent traveler experience, we will investigate and address the issue directly. However, in this situation we lacked the hotel information needed for normal follow-up.”

Reddit travelers asked other users if they had ever encountered anything similar and requested advice.

Many users told women that their hotel location is in the Middle East and should not risk long trips as they are in the Middle East in case they are denied check-in.
“[You] I don't want to stand up in a foreign hotel and realize that I don't have a room. Being on the right is useless in such circumstances,” one wrote.

“This hotel makes it very clear that they don't want you to stay. That's the end of the relationship. It's irrelevant to focus on whether they should respect the contract or not. You have no practical request to enforce this contract.

Another user shared a similar encounter, but shared it with another travel agency.
“I had the same experience as trying to cancel a very cheap booking I had made in advance because I absolutely had, 'I didn't pay the wages in advance.'
“When we arrived at the hotel, there was nothing but a frowned atmosphere and a bad atmosphere. In the end, the owner came and asked for an extra payment to us to stay (200% extra payment than what we already paid).
