Woman Faces Charges in Death of Boy

Dominika Mosby appeared in Shelby County Criminal Court on Thursday morning, facing charges of first-degree murder related to the tragic death of a 3-year-old boy.

The 29-year-old woman reportedly admitted to the horrific abuse of her boyfriend’s son, Kevin Horton. The boy was tragically found dead in a Memphis home on November 5th, having suffered severe injuries.

Details shared by the judge revealed that the boy’s father, Keith Horton, discovered him unresponsive, describing, “I arrived home, and she was standing outside. When I went in, my son was cold as ice.”

Judge Taylor B.A. ordered Mosby to undergo a mental health evaluation during the brief hearing.

Initially, police were called to the residence by the boy’s father, who found his son unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. In the investigation, Mosby first claimed that the boy had just gone to bed due to feeling sick. However, she later allegedly confessed to burning his genitals and ears with a lit cigarette after he had an accident on the floor.

Mosby claimed the boy wasn’t listening, so she resorted to physically assaulting him, punching him in the head and chest before stomping on him.

The autopsy revealed severe injuries, including a lacerated liver, internal bleeding, bruises to the torso, and burns. The coroner determined the cause of death was homicide.

Horton recounted the horrific scene, stating, “When we got home, she was outside. I went to see my son, and he was already cold and purple. He had passed away.”

Mosby is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated child neglect.

The boy’s grandmother expressed her grief, saying, “It’s heartbreaking because we loved him. I loved him as if he were my own, just like my oldest son.”

Mosby is set to appear in court again on December 11th.
