Incident in Alsip, Illinois
Police in Alsip, Illinois, located roughly 30 minutes south of Chicago, responded to a 911 call late Monday evening. The call came from a woman claiming she was being pursued by an armed individual in the vicinity of 124th Street and South Cicero.
During the response, the woman made multiple calls to 911, stating she had a loaded firearm and had killed a police officer. She warned that she would do the same to another officer, according to police reports.
Authorities traced the woman’s phone to Burr Oak Cemetery, where they eventually located her at the cemetery’s west end. Upon the officers’ approach, she fled, climbing a nearby fence and crossing Cicero Street. Officers gave her several verbal commands to halt.
However, the woman turned and aimed her weapon at the responding officers.
In response to what they considered an immediate threat, one officer discharged their weapon, resulting in the woman’s death. Life-saving efforts were initiated by the officers, and the Alsip Fire Department soon arrived to provide further assistance. She was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
At the scene, a replica Colt gun was recovered. Police noted that the incident appears to be isolated, posing no threat to the wider public.
The Alsip Police Department has requested that the Illinois State Police Public Order Division conduct an investigation into the matter, which is currently ongoing. They are also encouraging anyone with information regarding the incident to reach out to the Alsip Police Department.
The woman’s identity has not been disclosed yet. In response to the incident, hundreds of comments flooded the police department’s social media post about the events. While many commentators expressed support for the officers involved, some displayed skepticism regarding the situation.
