Rescue of Woman from Flooded Tree

A remarkable video shows rescuer efforts to save a woman who had been swept down the Guadalupe River about 20 miles during the July 4th flooding.

The 22-year-old was discovered clinging to a branch of a cypress tree, suspended several feet above the rushing water below, according to Ken5s.

A nearby homeowner heard her cries for help and immediately went to assist her.

When the man found her, one branch of the tree was already damaged, and another was starting to give way.

“You’ll hear and I’ll see you,” he reassured her, as reported by a local news station.

Despite calling 911, the emergency response was slow due to the flooding. So, he quickly left to flag down a first responder who was already out searching.

A rescue boat was dispatched, but the woman had been stranded in the tree for several hours at that point.

When help finally arrived, the water levels had decreased by about 10 feet.

Miraculously, the woman emerged with just a few cuts and bruises—considering the ordeal she underwent, being pulled through four dams and encountering a refrigerator and a car along the way.

Reports indicated she was camping with her family at an Ingram campsite when the swift river currents dragged her from her tent.

Her family’s attempt to escape by car was thwarted as the vehicle was washed away.

The Guadalupe River experienced a rapid rise of 26 feet in a mere 45 minutes, according to officials.

It’s still unclear whether her family members survived the harrowing event.

Sadly, at least 25 people have been confirmed dead due to the flooding, with many others still unaccounted for.

Among the casualties are at least two young campers from Camp Mystic, a Christian sleepaway camp for girls aged 7 to 17.
