Being open about relationships can really stir up conversation.
While polyamory has become more accepted than before, one couple is shedding light on their unique arrangement, leaving some people a bit puzzled.
Fernanda Fabian shared that she and her boyfriend Michael have agreed that she can date other individuals.
This understanding was established early in their relationship, and it seems to work for them, even though they initially faced some jealousy.
Fabian admits there was a time when she felt guilty about her feelings for others. “At first, when I started having feelings for different people, I thought I was in the wrong,” she disclosed.
She reassured her own feelings for Michael remained unchanged, saying that if anything, these experiences made her appreciate him even more.
It wasn’t an easy adjustment, but eventually, they found satisfaction in their openness.
“He feels secure in our relationship now, which helps him navigate any feelings of jealousy,” she mentioned.
For Fabian, showing love and gratitude towards Michael is essential. “He might not need it expressed, but I always make sure to prioritize our relationship,” she explained.
The couple has laid down some boundaries. For instance, they prefer not to discuss dates unless one of them is struggling and needs support.
While Fabian enjoys outings, Michael isn’t as keen on them.
She sometimes wishes he would embrace the experience, recognizing how fulfilling it can be and, I guess, somewhat addictive to their bond.
“I realize I might feel jealous, but those feelings will pass, just like they do for him,” she reflected.
Interestingly, their journey isn’t unusual. Another couple believes their foray into swinging revitalized their relationship. Gem Jones and her partner Daz navigated five years of what they termed an “unethical” relationship.
“Some see it as cheating and claim we’re tearing our marriage apart,” Jones stated. “People get upset because they don’t understand; meanwhile, we’re truly enjoying ourselves in our 40s.”
