A 65-year-old woman was killed in a stabbing incident at a Barnes & Noble bookstore in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on Monday. Authorities reported that the suspect confessed to the crime, stating he felt an “internal buildup” that led him to attack the victim.
The accused, 40-year-old Antonio Moore, is facing murder charges and is currently in custody as police look into the motives behind the attack.
The victim has been identified as Rita Roncharic, who was transported to a hospital but unfortunately passed away from her injuries, as confirmed by officials.
The violent encounter took place at the Legacy Place Shopping Center around 8 p.m. on Monday.
Witnesses reported that Moore fled the scene following the attack, according to a probable cause affidavit from the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department.
Moore was located in a wooded area nearby and apprehended early Tuesday morning, around 5:30 a.m., based on witness accounts and surveillance footage.
During questioning, he admitted to the stabbing, explaining that he felt an overwhelming reaction that compelled him to act violently, according to the affidavit.
It was reported that he had reportedly arrived in Palm Beach Gardens from Georgia about a week prior and had entered the bookstore to charge his phone.
A spokesperson for the Legacy Place Shopping Center mentioned that local authorities responded swiftly to the incident and that they are collaborating with law enforcement to enhance security measures.
Moore faces first-degree premeditated murder charges and made his initial court appearance Wednesday, where the court found probable cause and ordered him to remain behind bars without bail.
His next court date is set for next month.
