Rescue Operation at San Francisco Cliff
On Wednesday afternoon, rescuers in San Francisco saved a woman in a bikini who was precariously hanging from a cliff near a well-known seaside spot.
Aerial footage captured the moment, showing her clinging to the rocky face about 70 feet down, just above the churning waters of the Pacific Ocean, near the famous Cliff House restaurant.
This woman was barefoot and appeared to be trapped—struggling to find her footing as she tried to escape the perilous situation.
Firefighters from the San Francisco Fire Department quickly responded. They deployed rescue cables to secure her before rappelling down the cliff to assist her.
Once they reached her, the crew fitted her with a harness and helmet. Ultimately, they managed to bring her safely back to the top of the cliff and away from danger.
After the rescue, she was placed into an ambulance for a medical assessment.
According to fire officials, she was rescued around 4:50 p.m.
Authorities later explained that the woman had been caught in a rip current while swimming at Kelly’s Cove, which is known for its hazardous conditions. As the current dragged her toward the ocean, she attempted to climb up the cliff but got stuck just above the surf.
A bystander noticed her plight and called 911, prompting the emergency team to act. “The female patient was rescued from the cliff and is currently being evaluated by fire personnel on scene,” stated a SFFD spokesperson. “No fire department personnel were injured during this rescue.”
Thankfully, the woman appeared to be recovering well as she was brought back up the cliff. Medical teams assessed her at the scene, but she walked away without serious injuries.
Ocean Beach is notorious for its rough surf and strong currents, leading to multiple rescue scenarios each year. Tragic incidents have occurred here in the past; for example, from 2014 to 2020, at least eight people lost their lives in the area, prompting officials to issue warnings against swimming.
A particularly poignant incident occurred in May when a man tragically died while attempting to rescue his dog at the same beach.
