Assault Charges Against Chicago Woman
A woman from Chicago has been arrested on multiple assault charges after failing to show up for an earlier court hearing related to a different assault case.
According to reports, 37-year-old Diamond Miller missed a court date on December 2 regarding a misdemeanor battery charge. Instead of issuing a warrant, Judge Peter Gonzalez instructed the court clerk to send Miller a postcard as a reminder.
Allegations arose that Miller attacked a woman using a broken beer bottle, leading to immediate bleeding and cuts on the victim’s face, including a significant injury to her lower lip. This incident reportedly happened later in December.
Prosecutors claim that, while already under “grounding” due to a pending misdemeanor assault case, Miller assaulted three individuals in quick succession on December 21 near Pulaski Road and Cermak Road.
The first incident took place on a CTA #53 Pulaski bus when a 33-year-old man asked Miller to be quiet while he was on the phone. Court documents indicate that Miller responded by striking him hard in the face, causing pain and dizziness. The bus driver then halted the bus and contacted the authorities.
Following this, Miller exited the bus and went to a nearby bus stop. At around 12:17 p.m., she confronted a second victim and her friend near the bus shelter. Acting erratically, Miller demanded they give her space. The victim later reported that while her back was turned, Miller approached and hit her with a plastic bag containing a hard object, possibly ice. The victim promptly called 911.
Shortly thereafter, Miller returned to the same bus stop, where she encountered a 54-year-old woman and her 74-year-old mother who were switching bus lines. Alleging that they were stalking her, Miller yelled at them. Although the daughter assisted her mother, who was using a walker, Miller continued to shout at them. When the two were about to leave, Miller struck the daughter in the face with the broken beer bottle. This caused the daughter to bleed and resulted in cuts and a deep wound to her lip.
Interestingly, the initial victim witnessed this third assault and recorded part of it on her cell phone. Following the incidents, the first victim received treatment for minor injuries at St. Anthony Hospital, while the third victim needed five stitches for her injuries.
By 12:50 p.m. on the same day, police arrested Miller and charged her with three counts of aggravated assault and one misdemeanor count of aggravated assault against someone over 60.
Judge Robert Kusas ordered Miller’s detention. She was subsequently booked into Cook County Jail on December 24 without bond, with her next court date scheduled for February 19.
Earlier in October, Miller had spent three days in jail related to four thefts at retail stores. One of the cases was dismissed in November despite her absence from court, although it is worth noting that a store representative also failed to appear.
